Associations condemn assault on Konsakhul villagers

Konsakhul Violence: More than 30 people were badly injured and two other persons were in serious condition and currently hospitalised at Raj Medicity, Imphal.

The Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief and Chairman Association and the Ahangrok Chief Chairman Association have condemned the heinous crime perpetrated allegedly by the Leilon people and Police officers of Leimakhong Police Station on March 26.

The associations, in a joint press release, strongly condemned the brutal assault and attempt to murder on one D Lungengbou, son of D Dirangbou and Ch Rocky, son of (L) Ch Achun, both residents of Konsaram (Konsakhul), PS Leimakhong, Kangpokpi district by Leilon Vaiphei villagers while returning from Leimakhong on a two wheeler.

The two wheeler, bearing registration number MN01AC5485, was burnt to ashes without any reason or provocation and a JCB excavator owned by Edal Singh from Singjamei, Imphal, was also vandalised the same day and at the same place, the release added.

Aa group of tourists who came to Konsaram (Konsakhul) waterfall and some pilgrims coming from Imphal for the purpose of pilgrimage to Kounu Leirembi were also stopped and harassed at Leilon village without any reason, they stated.

It also condemned the police officers deployed at the place for showing a biased attitude towards the Konsaram villagers.

The associations appealed to the chief minister of Manipur to book the culprits and award befitting punishment as per law of the land and suspension of Leimakhong police officers who were involved in the physical assault and life threatening of two innocent civilians of Konsakhul villagers at Leimakhong Police Station, Kangpokpi district.

It also warned of intensified agitations if the state government fails to book the culprits and suspend the involved officers.

Meanwhile, the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKR-M) has also strongly condemned the barbaric and unlawful act perpetrated against the innocent civilians of (Konsaram) Konsakhul village at Leilon Vaiphei village on March 26.

LNKR-M on Wednesday drew the attention of the chief minister of Manipur to look into their charter of demands.

The demands include immediate arrest of the culprits involved in vandalising the JCB excavator and burning down of a two wheeler to ashes, immediate arrest of the culprits involved in abduction, physical assault with an attempt to murder of innocent civilians, immediate suspension of the officer in charge and other police personnel of Leimakhong PS involved in harassment and physical assault towards innocent victims after rescuing them from the abductors, to compensate for all the losses incurred by the innocent civilians during the course of the crime and to acknowledge the rights of the landowner of Konsaram (Konsakhul) and ensure justice at the earliest.
