Ak Nonganba Death Case: Demand raised to disclose arrested person’s statement

Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging, 41, from Kwakeithel Awang Konjeng Leikai, Imphal West was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Changoubung under Kangpokpi Police Station, Manipur on February 12.

The JAC in connection with the death of Ak Nonganba and Nupi Samaj on Sunday demanded the authorities that the statements given to police by Thokchom Sonia who has been arrested in connection with the case be disclosed to the JAC and Nupi Samaj as well as the public.

A release signed by JAC Convenor Th Ashalata stated that the resolution to raise the said demand was taken during a meeting with the JAC, Nupi Samaj and meira paibi organisations at Awang Konjeng Leikai Community Hall, Imphal West on Saturday.      

The meeting further reaffirmed the JAC’s demand to arrest the remaining accused person, failing which an intensive stir will continue indefinitely, and the body of Ak Nonganba will not be taken, it stated.  

Thokchom Sonia had been remanded in a seven-day police custody after she was produced before JMIC Kangpokpi. She had allegedly traveled with Nonganba a day before he was found dead. She was arrested from IT Road Bazar by Kangpokpi district police.

In connection with the case, one deputy kilonser of NSCN (I-M), Moses Gonmei, 42, from Katomei Namgailong in Senapati district was arrested and remanded in 11-day police custody after he was produced before JMIC Kangpokpi on February 14.
