NSCN (I-M) deputy kilonser held in connection with death of Ak Nonganba

The NSCN (I-M) deputy kilonser was arrested by a team of Kangpokpi Police Station with assistance from a team of Senapati District Police on Monday.

One person who reportedly holds the post of a deputy kilonser of NSCN (I-M) has been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of Ak Nonganba, son of former minister Ak Langam from Kwakeithel Awang Konjeng Leikai, Imphal West. 

According to sources, the arrested person has been identified as one Moses Gonmei ,42, from Vakho Village in Senapati district. He had been residing at a rented house in the village.  

He was arrested by a team of Kangpokpi Police Station with assistance from a team of Senapati District Police on Monday. Moses Gonmei reportedly holds the position of a deputy kilonser NSCN (I-M), as per sources.

Moses Gonmei was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Kangpokpi by Kangpokpi Police and remanded in police custody for 11 days. Another suspect involved in the case has been absconding from police, as per sources.  

Nonganba had traveled to Senapati with one Thokchom Sonia in a car on Saturday and his body was found at Changoubung village which is located at a distance of 3 km from Kangpokpi Police Station in Kangpokpi district at around 2.30 pm on Sunday.

Th Sonia had given her statement to police in connection with the incident.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the mysterious death of Akoijam Nonganba had demanded the state government to book the culprits within 24 hours, failing which it will launch a series of agitations.

Demanding to book the culprits, the ‘JAC against the brutal killing of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging’ along with locals staged a one-day sit-in-protest at the community hall of Kwakeithel Konjeng Awang Leikai, Imphal West on Monday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, JAC convenor Thounaojam Ashalata said the JAC demands justice for Nonganba as he was found dead under mysterious circumstances. 

Ashalata said the JAC will not take the body until the culprits are booked.
