The 79th National Fire Service Day under the theme ‘Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity’ was observed by the Thoubal Fire Service at the Thoubal Mela ground on Sunday.
The National Fire Service Day was observed to commemorate the sacrifice of the 71 firefighters in the Bombay Explosion at the Victoria Dock in Mumbai on April 14, 1944. In the Bombay Explosion, 71 firefighters along with around 1300 civilians lost their lives in the explosion of two ships carrying British cargo.
As part of the 79th National Fire Service Day observation, the Thoubal Fire Service conducted a mock drill in which the people were instructed on the precautionary measures and tips for fire safety. The event was also attended by Manipur Fire Service department additional director L Nabachandra.
Manipur Fire Service sub officer Kh Surchandra said that as part of the week-long observation of National Fire Service Day from April 14 to 20, a team of Manipur Fire Service conducted mock drills at various districts including Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Thoubal in collaboration with the respective Fire Service department.
