Students of Yangambam Kumar (YK) College Wangjing on Sunday demonstrated a sit-in protest and locked the college gate and the administrative block of the college, protesting against the transfer order of the college principal.
The students made the move in protest against the transfer order of the college principal S Giri. The transfer order was issued on Friday by the commissioner of the Higher and Technical Education Department, government of Manipur.

The students said that the administrative block and the college will be locked until the state government withdraws the transfer order. During the protest, the students displayed placards which read, ‘Revoke Transfer Order of Our Principal Immediately’, ‘No Unreasonable Transfer of Principal’, ‘Go Back New Principal’, ‘We Condemn Unreasonable Transfer of Principal’, and ‘Don’t Disrupt Academic Atmosphere’ etc.
At the protest, one student studying in 5th semester namely Nelson Moirangthem said that the students of the college strongly condemned the transfer order. He mentioned that during his tenure S Giri had taken up many academic and infrastructural development of the college. He mentioned that S Giri also played a huge role for the college to achieve the NAAC-B grade.

“The untimely transfer order of the principal when his five years tenure is about to end is unreasonable,” he said.
Students of the college namely Shaikhom Dayananda Meitei and Nongthombam Bijaya condemned the transfer order and added that the students will continue the protest until the authorities concerned withdraw the transfer order. The students of YK College also submitted a memorandum to the Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency MLA Paonam Brojen to withdraw the transfer order of the YK College principal S Giri.
