NEHU holds discussion on cybersecurity

The need for a more secure virtual and digital world was deliberated upon during a discussion on ‘Cybersecurity in Comparative Indian and European Contexts’ organised by NEHU

A collaborative panel discussion on ‘Cybersecurity in Comparative Indian and European Contexts’ held with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), New Delhi was held at North East Hills University (NEHU), Shillong, Meghalaya.

NEHU stated in a release that in the discussion on ‘Cybersecurity in Comparative Indian and European Contexts’ held in the presence of German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Party, Member of Parliament Florian Müller, the need for a more secure virtual and digital world was discussed.

The panel discussion was organised by the office of International Affairs of NEHU and it was chaired by NEHU vice chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla, it mentioned.

Welcoming the guests, registrar-in-charge Anand S Dixit expressed the need for collaboration in cybersecurity and implored the visiting German dignitaries to engage with the domestic researchers with special reference on issues like date leakage, preservation of databases and securing critical information, it maintained.

In the event attended by students, researchers and faculty of NEHU, MP Florian Müller shared his experience of representing the mountainous province of Attendorn of Western Germany located on the foothills of the Alps in Bundestag and found parallel with Shillong, Meghalaya, it informed.

It stated that NEHU VC Prabha Shankar Shukla spoke on the need for NEHU and Konrad Adenauer Foundation relationship in promoting faster economic growth and in developing research of mutual interest.

Key speaker of the panel Padmashree Patricia Mukhim highlighted the importance of cybersecurity in the lives of ordinary and common people as they are easy targets for numerous cybercrimes, it added.

The panel discussion ended with an expression of mutual interest in augmenting research in cybersecurity in the domain of knowledge as well as in solving security-related issues which requires the relationship of India and Germany, it added.
