Government urged to provide free education for displaced students in Manipur

Six student bodies of Manipur urged the state government to open a residential school for the displaced students and ensure them free education.

As many as six student bodies of Manipur on Monday raised several demands to the state government and authorities concerned for the welfare of the displaced students.

A joint release issued by the MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, and another student body raised 13 demands for the welfare of the students.

The demands include taking appropriate measures to help and ensure educational needs to the displaced and affected students and those in the peripheral area, pressing demands to the state government to urge the centre for a special package for the betterment of the state’s education sector.

It also demanded a residential school for the displaced students and ensure them free education, to set up state security force outpost in the peripheral areas, to identify a convenient place well-guarded by volunteers in said areas to enable students to pursue studies, to initiate proper counselling sessions for the students by psychologists/counsellors, to arrange special classes for students who are unable to physically attend classes.

They also demanded to allow the destitute students to get admidmission in any schools or freely change schools convenient for them, to ensure free education to the children and siblings of the brave hearts who laid down their lives in the conflict, to resume internet services for online classes and focus on physical distance digital proximity.

The student bodies also urged private schools to set the admission and tuition fees at affordable rates to avoid dropouts and not to issue any type of fines to the students. They also demanded reduction in transportation fees and to open redressal cells to address the grievances of the students.
