Several people were injured in a shooting that took place at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York during the rush hour around 08:30 local time (12:30 GMT) on Tuesday, sources said.
At least 16 people were injured in the shooting at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York, the sources said.
According to a BBC report, 10 suffered gunshot wounds, while others suffered from smoke inhalation and shrapnel wounds.
While the reason for the shooting remained unclear and the attacker reportedly fled the scene and is at large, police are hunting for the suspect, the sources said.
Issuing an advisory, the New York Police Department (NYPD) tweeted, "Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area,
The NYPD said there are no active explosive devices.
"In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time. Any witnesses are asked to call @NYPDTips at #800577TIPS. Please stay clear of the area. More provided information when available," the NYPD said in another tweet.
