PFA releases rescued wildlife

Eight snakes and three turtles were released at Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur district on Wednesday.

Rescued wildlife, including eight snakes and three turtles, were released at Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur district on Wednesday by People for Animals (PFA) Manipur as part of observing World Animal Day 2022.

A statement by People for Animal Manipur stated that the released wildlife included seven monocle cobras, one copper-headed trinket snake along with three Malayan box turtles at the Keibul Lamjao National Park. Most of them were found outside their natural habitat before they were rescued, PFA stated. Their release was conducted as part of the observation of the foundation day celebration of the organisation as well as the World Animal Day 2022, it added.

It stated that the event was led by BO S Sanahanba and PFA chairman Ak Pream under the supervision of Keibul Lamjao National Park DFO Kh Sanajaoba.

It mentioned the various human activities which caused the invasion of wildlife such as snakes in human settlements. It highlighted the benefits of such animals in their habitats in maintaining the ecological balance of nature. It also urged the people to protect the migrating birds which would begin migrating to the state soon and informed the people to contact 9862107063 if anyone witnessed the poaching of migrating birds.
