People for Animals (PFA), Manipur have seized around 150 nano fish bowls which are seen being widely sold on the roadside of Manipur by non-locals from Haryana. Chemicals used in colouring the water were also seized.
The nano fish bowls were seized mainly from Athokpam, Waithou in Thoubal district and Canchipur, Imphal West.
PFA members said that food colouring chemicals were used in the water to attract the buyers. People have been buying the nano fish bowls at the rate of Rs 600 per pair of fish along with the jar and coloured water while it costs Rs 150 per fish.
According to buyers, the fishes die within a span of two to three days.
Strongly condemning cruelty on animals for some profit and public display, the PFA members said that there are certain rules and regulations for selling fishes and aquariums.
The non-locals were released after they were given a warning and were advised to use clear water for the fish and to sell them in the shade.
Legal action will be taken up against them if they are found going against the rules and regulation, the PFA said, adding that the fishes are being kept in the PFA shelter.
