Forest Festival: 500 tree saplings planted in Chandel amid unrest

Chandel DC M Rajkumar stated that Van Mahotsav will take a major role in reaching the target of 1.5 degree celsius for the world.

The Chandel Forest Division on Wednesday organised the 74th Van Mahotsav Festival, 2023 at 8th MR Campus in Chandel district and planted around 500 tree saplings.

Chandel DC M Rajkumar Singh, Pritam Kshetri, DFO, Chandel; Salam Somorjit Singh, CO/8th MR and TS Chamna Anal, Additional SP/Chandel attended the programme as presidium members. Students of Koinonia School, Chandel, 8th MR Riflemen and Forest department staff took part in the tree plantation. 

Speaking at the event held at MR Hall, N Munal Meitei, ACF, Chandel said that the “Forest Festival” was initiated in 1950 to spread awareness of forest conservation and to save the environment and it has become an international festival. He also appealed to the people to plant at least one tree to help in saving the deteriorated environment.

Chandel DC M Rajkumar stated that Van Mahotsav will take a major role in reaching the target of 1.5 degree celsius for the world. He also expressed satisfaction for organising the festival in Chandel district, a home to many communities, amid the current unrest in Manipur.
