Tripura Polls 2023: Congress accuses BJP of booth capturing

The CEO Tripura has directed the respective district administration to look into the matter where the incident of poll violence took place during the Tripura Legislative Assembly elections 2023.

The Congress party, which is contesting in 13 assembly constituencies in Tripura Legislative Assembly elections 2023, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of booth capturing and poll violence as voting for the 60-member Tripura Assembly was held across 3,337 stations in the state, sources said.

Sporadic violence during the polling was reported in the state, particularly in Dhanpur and Mohanpur. Following the reports of poll violence and accusations against the ruling party BJP, CEO Tripura has directed the respective district administration to look into the matter where the incident of poll violence took place, according to reports.

Till 11 am, Tripura recorded a voter turnout of 32.11 per cent with over 28.14 lakh voters exercising their franchise in the ongoing state Assembly elections, which started at 7 am. It will continue till 4 pm.

The results of the election will decide the fate of 259 candidates in the 13th Legislative Assembly election of Tripura.

The total 259 candidates in the fray included 20 women candidates.

Among the participating parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded 55 candidates, including 12 women candidates while its ally IPFT will be contesting in six assembly seats.

While the CPM is contesting in 47 seats, the Tipra Motha will contest in 42 assembly seats, the Trinamool Congress in 28 constituencies. A total of 58 others are independent candidates.

The counting of votes will be conducted on March 2, and the results will be declared the same day.

The term of the present Tripura Assembly will end on March 22.

The BJP had won the election for the first time in 2018, putting an end to the 25-year Left rule in Tripura.

Meanwhile, a special inter-agency team was constituted to control illegal drugs in the state. Following it Rs 14.12 crore worth of Ganja cultivation has been destroyed so far in Tripura.
