The Young Welfare Club, Thambalkhong thrashed ICSA Irengbam by 7-2 goals in the opening match of the U-13 Khelo India Girls Football League 2023-24 played at CYLC Ground, Chingamathak.
After a brief stalemate in the opening minutes, the unassuming ICSA brought cheers to the crowd with I Thajamanbi shaking the net for the lead in the 22nd minute. But YWC struck back instantly with L Russia Chanu fetching the equaliser in the 25th minute.
The second half belonged to YWC as they made multitudes of attacks, giving a hard time to the ICSA goalkeeper who was caught wrong-footed on several occasions with Y Jandiya scoring three goals in 30th, 31st, 34th while H. Zenia in 29th, L Russia in 32nd and L Linthoi in 45th. The second goal for ICSA was scored by O. Retika in the 38th.
The second match saw Youth Welfare Club, Langthabal beat Women Football Academy by 7-2 goals as well. L Sheityamala scored four goals while K Daina, Julan N and K Rashesori fetched one goal each. The two goals for WFA were made by W Bedanti and Malemnganbi N
MAHUD and RD & PR Minister Y Khemchand graced the formal opening of the tournament. Eight teams are participating in the meet.
