UKB Churachandpur post 5-4 goals win against YPHU in 12th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament

UKB Churachandpur edged out YPHU Lalambung by 5-4 goals during penalty shootout after both teams were locked with 1-1 goals during regulation hours to enter pre-quarter stages in the opening match of the 12th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2021-22 played at Turf Ground, SAI Complex Takyel, Imphal West.
UKB Churachandpur, which had a string of success in the ongoing Manipur State League, found the going to their liking as they came up with the opening goal in the 10th minute of play from Paolenlal for the lead.
However, YPHU team, with a strong mindset to settle scores against UKB, left no stone unturned seeking the equaliser and they got it in the 23rd minute when Y Kamando Singh netted home to level 1-1 goals.
With fierce competition cropping up for the winning goal, both teams failed to capitalise chances as they were rather engrossed in mid field tussles for supremacy, resulting in the penalty shootout.
The kicks from penalty mark saw, UKB team converting all four kicks from Lalminlun, Ngamminlal, Johnte, Lalboibi while for YPHU, Y Kamando, P Renedy, Lunkhongam Haokip beat the keeper while M Leishemba and Kh Arun mistimed their kicks for the defeat today.
The tournament was formally opened by Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh along with top CRPF officials and family members of late assistant commandant, Ng Manoranjan Singh.
The tournament which is being played on knock out format is participated 24 teams including SSU Singjamei, Muvanlai Athletics, KSC Kangpokpi, WAFA Wangoi, MPPS Police HQ, NACO Nambul Mapal, AFC Thoubal, KLASA Keinou, Sagolband United, UKB Churachandpur, YPHU Lalambung, XI Star Sporting Union, ESU Wangkhei, AIM Khabam, SFC, RAU Lairikyengbam Leikai, NISA Thangmeiband, YUFC, SAI, KYVO, Classic FA, Neroca FC, TRAU FC and NESU Porompat.
