Tokyo Olympic Village reports first COVID-19 positive case

The first COVID-19 positive case in the Olympic Village is a foreign national, the organisers said.

Just six days before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics, the Olympic Village on Tokyo Bay reported its first COVID-19 case on Friday, the Games organizers said on Saturday.

The organisers told media persons that the resident of the Olympic Village who tested positive for COVID-19 is a foreign national and has been shifted to a 14-day quarantine facility in a hotel, according to reports.

The OIympic Village is expected to accommodate as many as 11,000 athletes and thousands of staff for the Games which will open on July 23.
