The 33rd Super Knockout Tournament organised by the Southern Youth Sports Association (SYSA) was kicked off at the New Kaiphundai Village ground of the Tousem subdivision in the Tamenglong district on Tuesday.
The event was attended by SYSA president Akhon Kamei, vice president Gaikhangkhuan Kamei, Nungkao chairman Angam Kamei and PRO to minister Awangbow Newmai, Joseph Riamei as the host chief, president and guests of honour respectively.
The Super Knockout Sports Tournament which will be held till January 31 will be participated by sportspersons from 13 villages, including 15 teams for men’s football, 14 teams for men’s volleyball and six teams for women’s volleyball.
The guest of honour spoke on the importance of games and sports in maintaining a healthy life. He also appealed to the sportspersons, parents and guardians to encourage the youth towards a healthy and drug-free lifestyle and also urged the people to support the various initiatives taken up by SYSA for the wellbeing of the people.
