Manipur pulled off a solitary goal win over Tamil Nadu in the ongoing 77th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy 2023-24 (Group Stage) played at Vijay Singh Pathak Stadium, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
In the opening match of the Group C, the aggression of the teams was quite evident, seeking the early lead to dominate the proceedings. However, none could capitalise on the chances rather than earning yellow cards, to end the first half goalless.
However, Manipur with their nitty gritty approach got the chance in the 89th minute when substitute forward Samson found the net, to enjoy the opening win on Sunday. Manipur players Ng Jenish, S Abinash and Tamil Nadu players Pradison Mariyadasan, Pandiyan Sinivasan got yellow cards in the match.
Manipur's next match will be against host Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning. It can be mentioned that Manipur is paired with Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in Group C of the championship.
