FC Imphal, Mayaikoibi claimed the Champion title, beating UVSA Lilong Chajing by 5-3 goals during tie break in the RKFD's 4th Sangai Trophy Veterans' Football Championship 2022 played at Artificial Turf, Lamlong Thongkhong on Sunday.
The final match witnessed both teams holding their position with 1-1 goals during normal time play, needing kicks from penalty marks to decide the eventful winner of the championship.
Having more agile under 45 years players in their ranks, the FC Imphal made most of the run until they got the breakthrough in the 26th minute of play with Lamkholen finding the right angle for the leading goal. However, UVSA rallied back strongly and got the revenge when they scored a penalty in the 30th minute and N Itocha Singh converted it to perfection to hold on 1-1 goals.
FC Imphal got many opportunities, but their shot lacked direction which ultimately led to kicks from the penalty mark.
FC Imphal converted four kicks from M Meino, M Kiran, S Somananda, Lamkholen while UVSA players K Khelendra and N Itocha scored but W Ajit, Th Lukhoi kicks were blocked by the keeper for the victory.
FC Imphal got richer by Rs 1 lakh with winning rolling trophy while UVSA collected Rs 50,000 with runners up trophy.
FC Imphal also walked away with four individual titles including best goalkeeper title by RK Chandrajit, best player award (below 45) M Bidyasagar, best player award (above 45) L Kipgen, best player award (above 50) K Ibomcha, which carries a cash amount of Rs 5,000 each.
The UVSA also bagged best defender title by K Premkumar and best midfielder title by Kh Sanaton and top scorer title by W Ajit with 11 goals. AMBA player K Birendra Singh was given the oldest player award and VSAI Thangmeiband was adjudged the Fair Play team.
