VSAI Thangmeiband edged out NKVFC Utlou by 6-4 goals during penalty shootout to book their semi-final berth in the RKFD's 5th Sangai Trophy Veterans' Football Championship 2024 played at PAMYAL Ground, Patsoi.
Having managed 1-1 goals during regulation hours, the match outcome had to be decided by penalty shootout where VSAI converted all five kicks while NKVFC could roll in three kicks only.
NKVFC looked promising in the start with S Somananda fetching the opening goal in the 25th minute but VSAI settled the score through S Santa in the 32nd minute of the second half. During penalty, Rajesh, Maimohan, Ratan, Romesh and Sanjoy put in for VSAI while Ajit, Dijendra and Shubachandra got the angle right for NKVFC.
In a similar fashion, EMVFC Lamlai made it to the semi-final beating Keishamthong FC by 4-2 goals. The Lamlai team moved ahead with Y Dhanashyam getting the opening goal in the 28th minute but M Shanjitkumar got the equaliser for KFC in the 30th+1 minute, needing a tie break to break the deadlock.
In the resultant penalty kicks, W Shyambabu, Kh Suresh and Th Ramananda scored for EMVFC while M Bomolchandra was the lone player, converting his kick for Keishamthong FC. UVSA Lilong Chajing will meet Langthabal FC while IVFA Singjamei will take on MLVFA Mayai Lambi in their respective quarter final matches on Monday.
