Manipuri athlete wins India Backyard Ultra

Manipuri athlete Laishram Surendrakumar Singh will be part of Team India, in the World Team Backyard Ultra which is scheduled to be held on October 15, 2024, a release stated.

Manipuri athlete Laishram Surendrakumar Singh from Top Awang Leikai, Imphal East won the 4th edition of the India Backyard Ultra (Last Man Standing Event) which was held at Aravalli, Gurgaon on February 12.

A release stated that Laishram Surendrakumar Singh, son of Laishram Ibohanbi Singh and Laishram Leimahal Devi from Top Awang Leikai, Imphal East won the 4th edition of the India Backyard Ultra.

He ran for 30 hours covering 200 km at Aravalli trail, which started at 7 am on February 11 and finished by 1 pm February 12 as he was the last one standing, it added. He will be part of Team India, in the World Team Backyard Ultra which is scheduled to be held on October 15, 2024, it mentioned.

It continued that Surendrakumar had secured the runners-up position in the previous edition as well by running for 28 hours. It also stated that the Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a distance of 6.7 km in less than one hour.

The race is over when only one runner remains to complete a lap, and the last standing runner is marked as the winner and only finisher, with all other runners receiving a "DNF," it added.
