Manipur shuttlers picked up the Runners Up title of the U-19 Yonex-Sunrise 46th Inter State-Inter Zonal and Junior National Badminton Championships 2023 held under BAI by Karnataka Badminton Association on September 7-8, 2023 at Bengaluru, Karnataka.
This is the third time that the Manipur Junior have bagged the runners title after they took it at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in 2018 and Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh in 2019.
After gaining a bye in the team event quarter final match of the Boys Single, Manipur player H. Malemnganba Singh beat Samarveer of Chandigarh by 21-16, 15-21 and 21-15 points in the semi-final.
In the Boys Double match, the pair of H. Rohankumar Singh and Rk. Alen Singh lost to Chandigarh pair of Samarveer and Rehaan Phutela by 20-22 and 18-21 points.
However, in the third Boys Single match, Jomi Singam of Manipur overcame Krishna Sharma by 21-16, 9-21 and 21-13 points to claim the game by 2-1 points to move into the final.
However, in the final showdown, Manipur lost to host Karnataka by 2-0 game and had to settle for the Runners Up title.
In the first Boys Single, H. Malemnganba Singh bowed out to Ayush Shetty by 14-21 and 9-21 while in the Boys Double match, H. Rohankumar and Rk. Alen Singh lost to Nicholas Nathan Raj and Tushar Suveer of Karnataka by 19-21 and 17-21 points for the second spot in the tournament.
Manipur was represented by shuttler H Malemnganba, Jomi Singam, M. Sushanta, Ng. Rishav, H. Rohenkumar, Rk. Alen and A. Kasparov. The team was accompanied by Akoijam Pradhipkumar Singh as Manager, Maisnam Romesh Luwang and Wahengbam James Singh as Coaches.
