The Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) will hold its pending AGM and the subsequent election of office bearers on November 25, 2023.

The MOA was at the receiving end after the Youth Affairs & Sports Department lambasted them on Thursday for not fulfilling to hold the election as well as not being able to submit required expenditures statements, incurred by them from the state government.

The audited financial statement of 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022, 36th National Games 2022 at Gujarat and 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022 at Shillong amounting to Rs 4,70,00,280 has yet to be submitted to the government.

Acknowledging their inability to hold its Annual General Body Meeting on time, MOA vice president, Th Joykumar Singh, while meeting the reporters at Olympic Bhavan, said that the AGM of the Manipur Olympic Association was supposed to be held in 2022 but they could not due to time constraints owing to hosting important games.

He added that they have been engrossed in organising as well as preparing teams for the games including 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022, 36th National Games 2022 and 2nd NE Olympic Games 2022. So there has been lots of stress and strain among us to make the Games successful, he said.

Th Joykumar Singh further said, they tried to hold an AGM in May this year but the present crisis led to the postponement of the same. However, MOA in its executive meeting held on October 2 had decided to hold the election on November 25 of this year and the same has been intimated to the Indian Olympic Association.

The matter has also been conveyed to the Registrar of Societies on October 4, 2023 as well, he added.

MOA secretary general, Sunil Elangbam said, they have viewed the concern of the Government very seriously and they are not sitting idle at the moment. Whatever required and asked by the government shall be submitted promptly once the AGM of the association is done, he said.

We have welcomed every help extended by the state government and we will not let them down in every aspect. As of the moment we will try to enhance our performance of our sportspersons to the level best and we seek blessing and cooperation from all sections of the society, Sunil said.
