Manipur Muaythai player Homeshwori Khaidem, who clinched gold at the recent WMC (World Muaythai Council) East India Title Belt, WMC India Ranking Series-9 at Baishaki Sangha Kalighat, Kolkata, was felicitated by local clubs of Lamdeng on Sunday.
The felicitation programme was jointly organised by VRO Club, RUCO Club and Lamdeng Mayai Leikai Youth Library Club at Lamdeng Awang Leikai Community Hall.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Lamdeng AC MLA S Rajen Singh lauded the gold medallist Homeshwori Khaidem, who hailed from his assembly constituency, stating that Homeshwori getting a gold medal is a matter of great pride not just for Lamdeng but for Manipur as well. He extended best wishes for her future endeavors.
Rajen said that Manipur is dependent on every sphere but it has been contributing a lot in the field of sports and culture. The present government has set up a sports university in the state, acknowledging the potential of the state in the field of sports. Getting the privilege to establish a sports university is a huge achievement of Manipur, he added.
He said that Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a game that needs a lot of courage and skill. To promote this game, all possible support will be extended, he said.
Parents should also encourage their children if they want to learn this game. “Let us try to promote young talented children in the field of sports and help them bring more laurels for the state,” he appealed.
The programme was also attended by president of VRO Club A Tomba Singh as president; president of KMMAC 7C Len RK Kaiku; chairman of MMA Meiraba Ayam and president of RCO Kh Lokendro Singh as guests of honour.
