Manipur outsmarted Goa by 11-0 goals in their opening match in the Hero Sub-Junior National Football Championship 2023-24 which kicked off at Berhampur, West Bengal on Sunday.
Forward Md Majit ruled the turf, scoring five goals while midfielder S Drunao fetched three goals; defender Y. Maldini, midfielder M. Jojo and forward M. Henery scored a goal each for the opening win.
Manipur will meet West Bengal in their next match on Tuesday and face Haryana in their last league match on September 7.
Top four teams from each group will be picked for the semi-final matches on September 11; the final match is slated on September 13.
Altogether, 16 teams are participating in the championship, categorised in four Group with Meghalaya, Karnataka, SAI, Uttar Pradesh in Group-A while in Group-B have West Bengal, Goa, Haryana, Manipur and in Group-C are Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Mizoram and Group-D comprises Arunachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Gujarat.
