In the recently concluded National Master Athletics Championship 2024 held at Hyderabad, Telangana, Team Manipur bagged a total of 100 medals including 39 golds, 33 silvers and 29 bronzes and scored the fourth position in the medal tally.
A total of 29 male and 46 female master athletics under the banner of Manipur Masters Athletic Association (MMAA), led by its secretary RK Chourajit as team manager and Kabir Hussain as assistant team manager, took part in the championship held from February 8 to 11.
The participants and the medallists were felicitated by the MMAA at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel in Imphal. They also honoured the media personnel acknowledging their contribution to the public by spreading genuine news.
Speaking on the occasion, MMAA president L Yaimachou commended the performance of the master athletics of Manipur for their endeavour performance, despite lack of practice due to the ongoing unrest in Manipur.
He said, these masters athletics are not just players, they are also taking part in the ongoing issue of Manipur at their individual level.
Amidst the ongoing crisis, the master athletics participated in the championship with the motive to show that the players of Manipur never fail to bring fame to Manipur.
The programme also witnessed the presence of president of Imphal East Master Athletic Association Th Rajnikanta, patron member of MMAA N Basanti, former president of MMAA Ayung Tampak Leima, and patron member of MMAA L Herojit as presidium members.
