The Kuki Football Academy (Junior) team sailed through to the quarter-finals defeating the Manipur Terrier 2-1 in a group C encounter on Monday at Brig M Thomas Ground Kangpokpi.
KFA residential boys found the opener through Obed in the 52nd minute which was equalized by the army team through Achan in the 64th minute. However, Lamgunlal had a brilliant strike to give the KFA Junior Team an important winning goal in the 66th minute to sail his team through to the quarterfinals.
The second match between YOSC Khurai and Taphou Football Club ended without conclusion after a mild scuffle broke up owing to a controversial penalty given by the central referee in favor of YOSC Khurai.
Taphou FC had been leading the game 3-1 till the first half. YOSC Khurai found its second goal in the second half and the central referee Ajit Singh gave a penalty kick in favor of YOSC after he booked one of the Taphou FC players for a handball. It was when the mild scuffle broke up when the Taphou FC players protested over the referee's decision.
The organizing committee then summoned managers and officials of both teams and finally decided to conduct the match for the remaining time of 15 minutes to commence with the penalty kick on Wednesday.
There will be no match on Tuesday owing to the Kuki's Sahnit Ni.
On Wednesday, YOSC Khurai and Taphou FC will resume with the remaining time before Sagolband United play FC Gorkha XI Manipur in the first match while Satkhohen and Sumkhomang Memorial Team will clash with TYPOM Maohing in the second match.
The quarterfinal matches will begin from September 15 after Wednesday's matches.
