Kankhu United defeated Chandel Christian Youth Club by four goals to one on Tuesday to be crowned the champions of the 2nd 9-A Side Football Tournament organised by Chakpikarong Youth Club at the Chakpikarong Public Ground.
Watched by hundreds of fans and supporters, the goals for Kankhu United were scored by Winkle Chothe (1), Kaphensa (2) and Armstrong (1). The lone goal for Chandel Christian was scored by St. Thumlarson.
The champions, Kankhu United, were also declared the Best Team of the tournament. As for individual awards, Best Player was awarded to Ts. Thumsol (Chandel Christian YC), Top Scorer to Ws. Phahrin ( Chakpikarong Youth Club, Best Defender to Sr. Koganhring (Chandel Christian YC) and Best Keeper to Ts. Bunghring (Kankhu Bepu).
The finale was attended by Hulang Livingsson, special contractor; TS Chamna Anal, President, DSA and Bs Augustine, Lecturer, Maha Union Govt Hr Sec School as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
In their speeches, they congratulated the Chakpikarong Youth Club for organising such a great tournament and successful too. They also encouraged all participating teams to take sports seriously and professionally too.
Bd Onahring, president of Chakpikarong Youth Club, thanked all the participating clubs while acknowledging their contribution for the success of the tournament.
