Independence Day Cup 2022 organised by Moreh Youth Club sponsored by 5 AR Moreh Battalion was concluded on Friday at Galngam Lentoul ground Moreh.
A huge crowd gathered at Galngam Lentoul Moreh to witness the final match of Independence Day Football Cup 2022.
Tahchapa-FC and FC-Lendou clashed in the final match of the revived Independence Day cup. Tahchapa-FC defeat FC-Lendou in a Tie-break after 1-1 draw in a hotly contested final match.
Galngam Lentoul was packed with a crowd coming to witness the closing ceremony. Various communities residing in Moreh town witnessed Independence Day Cup. Community leaders from Kuki, Tamil, Meitei, Muslim etc attended the closing ceremony. Mate Cultural Troupe and Hmar Youth Association perform Cultural dance in the closing ceremony.
Col Raza Israel-CO 5 Assam Rifles, Moreh Battalion attended the closing ceremony as chief guest.
President, KCA Tengnoupal district LS Seikhojang Baite attended as chief host and president, HTC, Moreh Victor Limthang Touthang; vice president, Tamil Sangam, Moreh KB S Maniam; president, Meitei Council, Moreh M Thoiba Singh were the guests of honour in the closing ceremony.
Mahesh Dutt (Dy Commandant 5 AR) and leaders of HTC, KKL and KWU&HR also joined the closing ceremony. Speaking as chief guest, Col Raza Israel, expressed gratitude to MYC and all the communities in Moreh town.
It may be noted that Independence Day Football Cup was once a popular football tournament in this border town. But it was halted in 2010 and remained defunct for the last 11 years. However, with the arrival of 5th Battalion Assam Rifle in Moreh town the Moreh Youth Club (MYC) in collaboration with 5 AR revived the Independence Day Football Cup in 2022.
