FutGal: Bilei Youth Club lift Champion trophy

The Bilei girls defeated A Geljang Football Club 6-4 via tie break in the final match and lifted the champion trophy with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while the runner-up A Geljang FC received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs.30,000.

Bilei Youth Club girls lifted the 3rd edition of FutGal-Girls Football Tournament that was jointly organised by KSO Saikul and InSIDE North East at Saikul block ground.

The Bilei girls defeated A Geljang Football Club 6-4 via tie break in the final match and lifted the champion trophy with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while the runner-up A Geljang FC received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs.30,000.

The sound of gong, drum, and trumpet echoes the air during the final match – fans from both sides with sports spirit cheer up their team.

The closing ceremony was attended by social worker Paokam Kipgen; social activist Hekim Lupheng and entrepreneur (proprietor of Shitwi Theng) Lalpu Khongsai as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

While lauding the organising team InSIDE-North East and KSO (Saikul), Paokam Kipgen, exhorted the girls to be strong and assertive of their rights while challenging them to take active part in politics and fight for their welfare and development. 

Director InSIDE-North East Hejang Misao in his keynote address congratulated the two finalist team – Bilei YC and A Geljang FC and mentioned that InSIDE-Northeast started FutGal with a vision to create a platform for girls where their skills can be honed, their confidence is built and make it as a launch pad for all promising players to any level, be it state, national or international.

He also mentioned that from the tournament, promising players were selected and given football coaching. As a result, 11 girls are successfully playing in various clubs now, he said.

Football should be played for fun as well as for career, he said and exhorted the players to continue going to schools/colleges while making football their career.
