The First Modi Gospel Olympic Games, 2022 kicked off on Monday at Modi Playground in Chandel, sponsored by Modi Baptist Church under the initiative of Modi Cultural and Sporting Club and in collaboration with NYK, Chandel. The event will be held from December 26 to 30, 2022.
Divided into four teams for the event, it comprises Yellow-King’s Way; White – Living Water, Red – Adventurer and Blue – Teens of the Lord. And the four teams will compete in a series of events such as football, volleyball, shot put, long jump, javelin throw, high jump, etc. for both boys and girls.
Rt Bebe Jackson, pastor of Modi Baptist Church, said that as much as physical health is important, there is a need for spiritual health. “Therefore, the Modi Baptist Church has sponsored this Olympic Games so that the youths of the villages are directed towards God and are spiritually healthy besides being physically healthy”.
He continued that the games is being held to guide the youths of the villages and protect them from the menaces of the world including drugs and alcohol.
The pastor said devotions in the morning and gospel services in the evening are also being held from December 26-30 to nurture the spiritual growth of the youth in particular and Modi villagers as a whole.
Kl John Mota, chief of Modi Village, said that the event is being organised so as to help and guide the youths in the right direction. As much as they are talented, many are not aware as to what they want and we believe that this Olympic games will help many in deciding their future, he added.
He also said that the village authorities and the Church board members are always there to support and help the youths of the village in ways and fields they want.
Ps Raylee Anal, president of Modi Cultural and Sporting Club (MSC) thanked the Modi Baptist Church and village authority for the support and encouragement, stating that such good deeds are the way to nurture the youths of the society.
If you want to build a society, there is a need to nurture and support the youths of the society today, Raylee said, pointing out that what the Modi village authorities and Church board do is great for the future of the village.
Earlier during the day, Sr member of Blue House (Teens of the Lord) and Rt Suzanna, White House (Living Water) won the marathon race.
A friendly, opener match between the Village Authority and the Church Board was won by the former.
And as a part of the opening evening, the Olympic torch was lit by Kl John Mota, chief of the village, after it was brought by the winners of the tournament.
