The five-day long ‘1st Football and Volleyball Knockout Tournament’ organised by Duiga Alang Surrounding Villages Organisation (DASVO), in collaboration with Puching Youth Club under the motto of ‘To attain the highest Development and Unity’ was kicked-off on Tuesday.
During the opening ceremony, former ADC member Shanthuiyang Pamei Akhui Segment attended the event as chief guest in the presence of DASVO vice-president Ariang Panmei, his colleagues and DASVO leaders and executives.
Speaking on the occasion, Shanthuiyang Pamei encouraged all the players and team participants. He appealed to all the participants to keep the spirit of well discipline of game and sports alive in every aspect in the future.
As part of the event, a cultural dance was performed by Puching Women Society. Hoisting of the flag and declaration of the tournament was done by the chief guest.
There are 16 football teams and 13 volleyball teams for men's category, and eight volleyball teams for women's category in the tournament.
At the opening football match, Puching Village beat Rangkhung-III with six goals and Rangkhung with one goal.
Puching Village Authority leaders, Youth Clubs, Women's wings, church leaders and other leaders from surrounding villages attended the sports meet.
