The All Manipur Polo Association has stated that the Chief Minister's Annual Sagol Kangjei Championship is to be introduced from 2022.

The AMPA in a press statement issued by secretary general H Leonid Singh stated that Chief Minister N Biren Singh wholeheartedly agreed to borne the expenditure incurred during the organisation of the CM’s Annual Sagol Kangjei Championship from this season.

The All Manipur Polo Association while making a plea to the chief minister regarding the dwindling numbers of Pony and save the rare species and also mooting for championship under his patronage, had shown his keen desire for the same and given its go ahead signal outright. “For this act, we are thankful to N Biren Singh,” the statement said.

Although the prize money for the winning team is not yet charted out, it is very likely that the champion team will be given Rs 2 lakh while Runners Up and participating teams will also be given fitting cash prizes.

With the effort from AMPA, which was established in 1955, and the patronage of the chief minister, it will certainly pave a way to the preservation of pony and establishment of polo ground in the state. Above all, it will help speed up the process of implementing pony policy in the state, it added.
