The Chandel District Volleyball Association (CDVA) conducted its 1st district level volleyball tournament, 2023 at Modi Village in Chandel from March 7 to 9 with over 40 teams participating in the senior (Men and Women) and mini (boys and girls) categories.
In the senior men’s category, JMT emerged as the champions beating LMMT in the final match held on March 9. In the senior women’s category, SASA defeated CSDSA to walk away with the prize.
In the mini (boys), St. Paul’s School, Liwachangning defeated Khudai Khunou while in the mini girl’s category, Khorpi defeated Modi.
Dy. Joyngam Anal, president of the CDVA said that since its formation in July of 2023, the association has been trying to take the sports to greater heights by looking out for talents from every nook and corner of Chandel district.
He informed that following the state volleyball tournament organised by All Manipur Volleyball Association at Sejam Chirang in September of 2022, many youths in the district are turning toward the game as a good number of players from the district were selected during the said tournament to represent the state.
A state-level player himself, Joyngam said that the first tournament of the CDVA was also held as a process to select players who will be able to represent the district.
As chief guest of the closing ceremony, Ts. Chamna Anal, president of DSA, Chandel called on the youths to turn to sports for a disciplined and healthy life. It will help you set your goals and keep you away from drugs, he said.
The closing ceremony was also attended by Hl. Lovingson, special contractor and Bs. Riinghring, TO, Chandel while the opening ceremony on March 7 was attended by Sh. Manglem, Ex-ADC member as chief guest; Sorokhaibam Robertson Singh, Range Forest Officer, Chandel, GoM as guest of honour and Ps. Yumas, president of Chamdil Four Villages as functional president.
