Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has proposed opening of a permanent aero sports facility after exploring its feasibility and finding a suitable location during the closing function of the first North East Aero-Sports Hot Air Balloons and Para Motor Fiesta, 2023.
The North East’s Aero Sports Hot Air Balloons and Para Motors Fiesta, 2023 was closed on Thursday. The fiesta was started on February 11 at Phubala Public Playground, Bishnupur and was organised by Manipur Aero Sports Association (MASA), SkyFunzy, a unit of Khasia Ventures, in collaboration with Captain Imochaoba Singh under sponsorship of the Tourism department with technical support of Adventure Wing Indian Army.
The chief minister highlighted that Manipur produces the highest number of defence officers per capita of the population, maybe next only to Punjab. He thanked the Indian Army, who provided technical support through its Adventure Wing to the event, and further highlighted that Manipur is suitable for such adventure sports activities. He also acknowledged the Army’s contribution in safeguarding the nation.
Mentioning construction of a sports building at Phubala playground, CM Biren said that the construction was handled by Manipur Development Society, because of CBI case the construction work was unable to complete. But the state government requested the CBI to allow the construction work. It is in process; the construction work will start to complete within one year.
Stating Manipur is becoming a tourist hotspot, Biren said that the INA headquarter at Moirang, Sangai Ethnic Park and the upcoming G-20 events in the state, so appealed to the people along the highway to accord a warm and traditional welcome to the visiting delegates of the G-20 event.
The function was attended by PW and YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Minister L Susindro Meitei, MP (Rajya Sabha) Maharajah Leishemba Sanajaoba, Brig Shankar J Tiwari of 57 Mountain Division, Moirang MLA Th Shanti, LDA Chairman M Asnikumar, officials of the 57 Mountain Division.
The chief minister also inspected the Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou and Heritage Site INA Headquarter at Moirang.
At Loktak Lake front, Sendra, the chief minister attended a ribbon cutting ceremony.
