The 42.5 kilometres long marathon will be organised under the theme ‘Run for Encouragement to Sports Youth of Manipur and Integrity.’ It will be flagged-off from Narensena, Bisnupur district and the finishing point will be at Uripok Achom Leikai, Imphal West, said general secretary of DYMO Zakichand SM while speaking to the media on Tuesday at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

He said, Manipur being the power house of India, has produced numerous national and international players. Moreover, the players have brought fame for Manipur by bagging many medals, he added. However, many talented players belonging to financially weaker sections are unable to expose their talents due to not having sponsors and proper guidance, he pointed out.

Considering all the facts, the general secretary said it is a responsibility of the social organisations to organise various competitive tournaments and games to give the young talented a platform.

The marathon is to mostly encourage the individual games, as the players of Manipur are more proactive in their performance in individual games, he said citing Mary Kom, late N Dingku, Sarita Chanu, Mirabai Chanu among others.

The general secretary sought the support of all the local clubs, civil bodies and the general public of Manipur in organising the marathon successfully.
