Easter and Christianity

If Jesus did not rise from the death, the belief that He was the son of God would be all false and that there would be no need to believe in Jesus.

Christianity is a 2000-year-old religion that began with the coming of Jesus Christ – his birth, death and resurrection. And over that 2000 years, Christianity has grown to be the largest and most widespread religion in the world with about 2.4 billion people following it. Based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, Christians profess Jesus as the Son of God and that He is the only way to the Father (God). They believe that Jesus was sent by God the Heavenly Father to redeem the world of its sins and that anyone who turns to Jesus and repents from their sins and wrong doings would have eternal life.

The teachings of Jesus are many, the most popular among them being ‘The Sermon on the Mount’. And today, Christians across the globe follow the many teachers of Jesus in ways they can – such as love for God, love for neighbours (also called brotherly love). Their main goal is to follow the teachings of Jesus in as many ways as possible and live it. However, over the years, the Christians were divided into many denominations with the majority of them being Catholics, believed to be one true Church founded by Christ. However, though different in denominations one thing was sure – they all followed the teachings of Jesus – though in different ways.

And while the Christians follow the teachings of Jesus, there are certain events in the life of Jesus that they observe or celebrate. For instance, they observe Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified but also celebrate Christmas – the birth of Jesus – and Easter – the day Jesus rose from the death.

Now, while Christmas is the most known and popular festival/celebration of the Christians, one must know and understand that the feast of Easter is the most important them of all. But how and why?

Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God for God said, as in the Bible, ‘This is my beloved Son with whom I am pleased’. They also believe that Jesus was sent as God the Father to redeem the world from its sin and that the crucifixion and death of Jesus was the way chosen. They believe that it was the biggest manifestation of love by anyone on the planet. However, if Jesus did not rise from the death, the belief that He was the son of God would be all false and that there would be no need to believe in Jesus.

That the resurrection of Jesus manifested it all that He was truly the Son of God, sent by God the Heavenly Father is the root Christianity today. Without Easter, there would no Christians and no Christmas. The belief that, by His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered it all, Christians are what they are today. For, if Jesus did not rise from the dead, there would be no Easter and no Christians.
