Christmas is easily the most popular Christian festival celebrated every year on December 25, marking the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a day marked by celebrations, Christmas carols, Christmas tree and house decorations, cakes, gift exchanges and even parties. And in most parts of the world, Christmas is a holiday season, a time when people take off from work to celebrate the festival with family, friends and near and dear ones. And the interesting part is, Christmas season is such that it is celebrated and enjoyed even by those who are not Christians, either by organising parties or visiting their Christian friends – after all, what is Christmas if not celebrated with friends too. But what does Christmas really mean? Is it just about celebrating the birth of Jesus?

Christmas, which literally means Christian Mass, is a celebration of God’s fulfilment of His words that He would send His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to save the world from Sin (For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16). And with His birth, Jesus Christ gave the world Love, Hope and Joy.

Flooded with sin but God did not want to destroy the world for He created men in His own image and LOVED them unconditionally. Therefore, to save mankind from sin and damnation, God sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, who would bear the sins of the world and sacrifice His life for the LOVE of mankind. And in that, the birth of Jesus, Christmas, brought and gave HOPE to mankind that they will not perish in hell but be saved by the LOVE and grace of God. And it is in this LOVE and HOPE that Christmas also brought JOY to the world; hence, JOY to the world, the Lord has come, let earth receive her King.

And hence, Christmas is not just any celebration but a celebration of LOVE, HOPE and JOY that the birth of Jesus Christ brought. It is a celebration of the manifestation of the LOVE of God for mankind, giving HOPE that the world would be saved from damnation and bringing JOY to all.

So, this Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, let us spread Love and Joy everywhere and give Hope to the downtrodden, the weak and the hopeless. For, it is what Jesus Christ came for to live among us.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
