CSOs appeal for relaxation of border restrictions

CSOs of Moreh town on Saturday appealed to the authorities concerned to grant relaxation of the restriction on movement and transportation of items at the India-Myanmar border.

A release jointly issued by Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh, Meetei Council, Moreh (MCM), Tamil Sangam, Manipuri Muslim Council, Moreh (MMCM)and Gorkha Samaj Sewa Samiti stated that the restrictions at the international border imposed by Assam Rifles in compliance with the state government’s order have affected the economy and livelihood of the people of Moreh.

Agriculture and cultivation are not dependable sources of income in Moreh and the people of the town mostly are daily wage earners, it informed.

It urged the authorities concerned to grant relaxation of the restriction at the border, especially for the locals whose livelihoods depend on the movement and transportation of items at the border.

The restriction has put an abrupt halt on the economic activities of the local population, it added.
