Neiphiu Rio on Saturday resigned as the chief minister of Nagaland as his tenure has come to an end. Rio submitted his letter of resignation to the state governor, La Ganesan.
"As my tenure has come to an end, I submitted letter of resignation as Chief Minister of Nagaland to the Hon’ble Governor," Rio tweeted.
NDPP chief Neiphiu Rio, the longest serving chief minister of Nagaland is all set to retain his office for the fifth consecutive term. Rio, who defeated Congress' candidate Seyievelie Sachu from Northern Angami II constituency, will be sworn in as the chief Minister of Nagaland for the fifth time on March 7.
In the recently conducted Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023, NDPP and its ally BJP won in 33 seats. While the NDPP contested in 40 seats and won 25 seats, the BJP contested in 20 seats and won 12 seats in the 60-member Assembly.
