Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday greeted the people of the state on the 58th Statehood Day, recalling the sacrifices and determination of the leaders who ensured the creation of Nagaland as a state of Union of India.
"On the 58th Statehood Day, I extend my greetings to the people of the State. As we celebrate this historic day, we remember with gratitude those leaders who by their sacrifices, foresightedness and determination ensured the creation of #Nagaland State as the 16th State of India," the chief minister posted on Twitter Tuesday morning.
The 58th Statehood Day was observed at the Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima with a low-key affair due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a part of the Statehood Day, the bust of Naga Peoples' Convention President Dr Imkongliba Ao, who was one of the pioneering architects of the state, was unveiled at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima.
Dr S Radhakrishnan, then President of India, declared Nagaland as the 16th State of the Indian Union with Kohima as its capital on December 1, 1963.
