Nagaland holds state funeral in honour of former speaker Imtiwabang Aier

Nagaland government held a funeral programme in honour of the former speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) and MLA Late Imtiwabang Aier at The Heritage, DC Bungalow in Kohima on Sunday.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer on behalf of the 13th August House and his family extended condolences and expressed their grief and sorrow to the deceased wife Kiehungle, children, and bereaved family members. The speaker said he will cherish their fond memories and his noble deeds. He said late Imtiwapang Aier was elected to the State Assembly from 23 Impur AC and appointed as Parliamentary Secretary of Geology and Mining and also appointed as the 12th NLA speaker on March 21, 2017. He was also re-elected in the same constituency in 2018 and served as MLA.

Minister for Planning & Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu, and Minister Rural Development Metsubo Jamir (Ao Legislature Forum) expressed their grief and sorrow on the occasion. The eulogies also mentioned the contributions and achievements of the deceased both National and International.

Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and chairman of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) TR Zeliang said he shared deep pain on the passing away of his brother-in-law. He said Late Imtiwabang Aier had a selfless inclination and sacrifice for the common welfare of the people. Zeliang said he was not only a brother-in-law but also a wonderful friend and colleague. He said the former speaker was a man of principle, devotion, and loyalty and his demise was a great loss to the Aos and the Nagas.

Kiehungle shared about Late Aier's illness and sudden demise while expressing gratitude to the people and the Government for showing love and care.

President Sungratsu Senso Telongjem Kohima, Er WL Wati, President Kohima Aoer Telongjem, Chubalezűk acknowledged the well-wishers, and state government and expressed their grief and sorrow on behalf of the organization.

Word of God and Benediction was shared by state chaplain reverend TW Yamyap Konyak. secretary-in-charge NLA Khruohituno Rio who chaired the last rites programme also read out the condolence messages of Nagaland Governor Jagdish Mukhi, and the state government.

Ministers, advisors, and MLAs, senior bureaucrats including Kuzholuzo Nienu, Chumben Murry, development commissioner AS Bhatia, home commissioner Abhijit Sinha, and others attended the funeral programme. A large number of mourners came to the venue, laid wreaths, and paid their last respects to the demise.

The mortal remains proceeded to his native Sungratsu village to be laid to rest.
