The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed 50 CAPF companies in advance in Nagaland in connection with the upcoming election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Some more would be arriving shortly.
This was informed by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland, V. Shashank Shekhar, during a meeting with representatives from various political parties on Monday. The meeting was held in connection with the upcoming visit of the ECI team to Nagaland, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
Briefing on the visit of the Election Commision of India (ECI) team to Nagaland, the CEO informed that the ECI team will be visiting Nagaland from January 13 to January 15 to meet all the recognised political parties and would be interacting with the senior officers of the state government including the chief secretary, the DGP, and also reviewing the poll preparedness with all the DCs, the SPs, enforcement agencies, both the state and the central.
The CEO then mentioned that the state level training and many preparations have been going on for the last couple of months and the ECI has deployed 50 CAPF companies in advance and some more would be arriving shortly.
The CEO then expressed hope that the citizens will provide all information to the various government, central and state, including enforcement agencies to ensure a free and fair poll. He said that elections must be conducted in a festive atmosphere and appealed to everyone to come together for a free and fair election, with no violence and no occurrence of re-poll.
