Former director of Rhythms of Manipur, artiste of the All India Radio (AIR) Imphal, Heisnam Bhagat Singh, one of the finest violin players of Manipur, passed away Saturday night at RIMS hospital.
Heisnam Bhagat performed in many parts of India besides performing in Singapore, Hong Kong as member of the cultural delegation of Rhythms of Manipur, and travelled to various parts of Europe along with Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, Rhythms of Manipur stated in a release.
As a music composer, Bhagat composed a good number of music compositions for Rhythms of Manipur including the Doordarshan national award winning composition The Journey in 2009-10, it stated.
Besides playing the violin and pena, Bhagat was also actively involved in the introduction and innovation of ‘Pennao’, an instrument developed from Pena, it further stated.
He was also the only musician actor in the state, and was involved in the play ‘Child of North East’ directed by Arambam Lokendra, which was featured at the first Bharat Rang Mahotsav organised by National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.
The Rhythms of Manipur extend heartfelt condolences on the sudden and untimely demise of H Bhagat and share the sorrow of the bereaved friends and family, it added.
