‘Monuments’ rocks Ukhrul, Prophets win ShiRock contest

Prophets from neighbouring Mizoram state was declared winner of ShiRock 2022. Symphonic Illusions from Shillong and 1BHK from the native Manipur state were adjudged 1st and 2nd runner up.

British metal band Monuments, on Saturday night, enthralled around 20,000 audiences at Bakshi Ground, Hungpung in Ukhrul district on the last day of the 4th edition of the State-level Shirui Lily Festival, 2022.

After days of adventure activities, cultural and other entertainment extravaganza, night-life devoid Ukhrul came alive and erupted into heart rendering euphoric metal tracks as the band took the stage with their special hits.

The band played as many as nine songs in full throttle vocal including No one will teach you, Cardinal Red, false providence, etc. which lasted for over an hour while the frenetic audience longed for more. The Monuments also played some encores.

The band members consisted of Andy Cizek in the lead vocals, John Browne -guitars, Mike Malyan - drums and Andy Swan in the bass. The band was formed by former Fellsilent guitarist, John Browne and former Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza guitarist, Josh Travis, according to information obtained from Wikipedia.

ShiRock competition is the main crowd puller of the annual Shirui Lily festival organised by the Tourism department, Government of Manipur with an eye on celebrating the beauty of state flower, Shirui Lily and to increase awareness on its preservation and promote tourism potentials of the district.

The rock contest also provides a platform to the Northeast-based bands to showcase their talent and entertain the public.

Participated by 16 bands from different NE states of India, Prophets from neighbouring Mizoram state was declared winner of ShiRock 2022. Symphonic Illusions from Shillong and 1BHK from the native Manipur state were adjudged 1st and 2nd runner up.

Winner of ShiRock bagged Rs 10 lakh in cash while 1st runner up got Rs 5 lakh and 2nd runner up received 2.5 lakh.

The winners also took to the stage and made the night a moment of reckoning with their acts. The performance which hit off at around 6:00 PM came to an end at around 12:30 AM.

On the other hand, six individual winners were awarded Rs. 25,000/ each. Best vocal was awarded to Suraj Chingkheimayum of Aural Paradox; best bassist to Jaye Haokip of Echoes of Mercy, best guitarist to Donald Pheipi of Variation 4, best drummer - Raegan Yumnam from Terra Progeny band, best keyboardist was awarded to Samuel of Prophets band and best Stage Act to Symphonic Illusion.
