The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on Tuesday announced the selected screen projects for the ‘Six months Intensive Screenplay Lab’ which is its first screenplay incubation and mentorship programme.
The MSFDS stated in a release that altogether 15 screenplay projects were received for the lab out of which seven projects were selected for the mentorship programme by the Screen Lab Selection Committee.
The selected projects were ‘Leitai Jagoi’ by Maipaksana Haorongbam, ‘Night and Night’ by Ashok Veilou, ‘Ima’ by R.K. Johnson, ‘Smell of the Ripening Field’ by Alexander Leo Pou, ‘Ashukpa’ by Maharabam Abhijit Singh, ‘The Scent of a Mother’ by Nandeibam Pramoda, and ‘Bewhiskered Courier’ by Suresh Khuraijam, it informed.
The selected projects dealt with contemporary issues, steeped in cultural nuances, it continued.
The MSFDS had launched the programme with the aim of nurturing a culture of good cinema in the state, inviting the present and new screenwriters from Manipur to apply with a screen project, to be developed during the Screenplay Lab, it maintained.
It stated that the programme will be divided into two phases, - in the first phase the applicants would be mentored on the basics of screenwriting, adopting a combination of online and offline mode of interaction. After a thorough understanding of the basics, the applicants would then be mentored on their specific projects in the second phase by film industry experts from outside the State, it added.
