Film Bazaar features Manipur Pavilion; many eye Manipur as next film destination

Film Bazaar 2022, held alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI)-2022 in Goa, was inaugurated on Monday by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur.

Manipur Pavilion is being featured for the first time at Film Bazaar, South Asia’s largest film networking platform held alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI)-2022 in Goa.

The 53rd edition of the film festival opened on Sunday and Film Bazaar 2022 was inaugurated on Monday by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry stated in a release that Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, Film Forum Manipur chairman Laimayum Surjakant, DIPR Manipur staff and functionaries of Cine Artistes and Technicians Association (CATA) gave a detailed look at how filmmakers or financers from outside the state and abroad must choose Manipur as their next film destination.

Several filmmakers from cities like Mumbai have shown keen interest to collaborate with Manipur and to make Manipur their next shooting location, the release stated.

As many as 12 states in India are opening their stalls at the Film Bazaar, it said, adding that Manipur is being given a complimentary stall by the I&B Ministry to mark the golden jubilee year.

Three countries, including Russia, France and Dubai, have also opened their stalls at the Film Bazaar.

Speaking at the occasion, Sunzu expressed the desire for NE states, particularly Manipur, to understand the potential of filmmaking as a big business opportunity for earning revenue and income generation so that the much needed push for promoting films is exerted.

Deputy secretary of the I&B Ministry, Armstrong Pame, who attended the Manipur Pavilion inauguration, said that the Ministry will study the possibility of setting up a regional office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Manipur as proposed by the state government.

He also exhorted the Manipur delegates to highlight film friendly aspects of Manipur to attract potential financers and collaborators, the release added.
