Documentary on Naba Wareppa selected for Kolkata film fest

The 29th Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 will kick off from December 5 till December 12.

Documentary film ‘Padma Shree Wareppa Naba: Rituals to Mainstream’ directed by Bobby Wahengbam has been selected to be showcased at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival 2023.

The documentary encapsulates the life and works of late Naba Wareppa who is regarded as a giant in the field of Manipur arts and theatre. The film narrates the struggles and sacrifices of Naba Wareppa in striving to upgrade the Manipuri arts, particularly Manipuri theatre.

The festival will kick off from December 5 till December 12. The documentary will be shown on the last day of the festival at 5 pm. The film will be showcased under the Short and Documentary Panorama category.
Bobby Wahengbam’s documentary film is one of 15 films which had been selected from all corners of the country to be showcased at the festival. Bobby Wahengbam is a well established name in Manipuri cinema with two National awards under his belt.

His films ‘Joseph’s Son’, ‘From Orphanage to Olympics’, ‘Soft Target’, ‘Roshni’, ‘Apaiba Leichil’ and ‘Eigi Kona’ have been shown at various national and international film festivals including KIMFF, IFFI, MIFF, IDSFF Kerala, KIFF, Sign, TIFF, OIFFA Canada, Golden Femi Bulgaria and many more.

He had also participated as a jury in the Panorama, Non-Feature category in the recently held IFFI, Goa.

Other crew of ‘Padma Shri Wareppa Naba: Rituals to Mainstream’ includes Bobo Thokchom in Cinematography, Rajkumar Lalmani as editor and Leishemba Laikharam as assistant director.
