The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has so far identified 58 potential candidates for the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections in Meghalaya.

“We have identified our potential candidates in 58 (out of 60) constituencies and that is a huge jump from what we had in the last election,” NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said while addressing a meeting to welcome Allan West Kharkongor to the party fold.

He said this is a clear indication and a clear message that the leaders and the people of Meghalaya are looking towards NPP as a party that they believe in, a party that has proven itself in the last four and a half years to be able to take the state forward and more importantly take up issues that are very critical to people.

“Such issues were not taken up in the past but this government has taken those steps forward and moved it to the right conclusion and that has led to the confidence building of the people,” he claimed.

Stating that the NPP is getting a positive response from the people of the state, Sangma said hundreds and thousands of people and political leaders are leaving their political parties to join the NPP.

“I thank God Almighty for giving this tremendous blessing to our party and I thank the people of Meghalaya for having faith and trust in our party to take the state forward,” he added.
