ZUF leader Alur Chiru shot dead

Alur Chiru, said to be joint secretary of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), was allegedly shot dead by suspected NSCN (I-M) cadres.

Suspected NSCN(I-M) cadres shot a man to death at Nungang Village under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi Police Station, Kangpokpi district on Thursday at around 3.15pm.

The deceased is identified as one Alur Chiru, 48, son of SD Rangnetlas of Dolang Chiru Village, Khoupum, Noney district. The deceased is said to be joint secretary of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF).

Legal formalities were done for the deceased but postmortem was not conducted as per the demand of the family members.

Meanwhile, unknown miscreants shot dead a person of the Kuki community at Kanglatongbi Shantipur on Friday at around 2.30 pm. Details of the killing remained unknown as the Sekmai police team could not reach the area and the deceased name is Lalboi, said sources.

The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) on Friday condemned the alleged killing of Joint Secretary Zeliangrong United Front Alur Seikho at Chuanphun Village, Kangpokpi district in cold blood by NSCN (I-M).

A release issued by AMN Publicity and Information Wing, asserted that such actions not only violate basic norms of civility and respect but also create an unsafe and unwelcoming environment in Zeliangrong area. It appealed to the authorities concerned to take swift and decisive action to identify those accountable.

Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) also condemned the cold-blooded killing of Alur Seikho allegedly by NSCN (I-M), and asserted that the cowardly act indicates the alleged attempt of NSCN (I-M) against ZUF.

ZUF Media Cell, in a release, also accused that the outfit carried out the act for no political reason but of bitter hatred on tribal lines or for the matter against the Zeliangrong kindred people.

It honoured the exemplary leadership, faithfulness, patriotic courage and unflinching commitment made by Alur Seikho for the cause of Zeliangrong Homeland. It asserted that ZUF will not lightly let go of the worth of his supreme sacrifices and contribution without recompensing his family, village and tribe.

The Central Executive Council and all rank and files of ZUF conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives and villagers, it mentioned.
