The Zomi Council (ZC) General Assembly cum Election 2024-27 with the motto “The truth shall set you free” was held on Saturday at Dorcas Mini Auditorium, Dorcas Complex, Hebron Veng New in Lamka which was attended by leaders from 9 constituents Tribe who constitute the ZC.
N Vumsuan was elected, uncontested, as the new chairman of Zomi Council along with other four secretaries for a period of 2024-27 by the electoral college consisting of the past leaders and representatives from nine constituent tribes and leaders from 13 Zomi frontal organisations, among others.
The programme was divided into three sessions where, in the first session, condolences to the departed leaders & martyrs programme was led by vice chairman of ZC, BD Samte followed by a speech from Chairman of ZC John K Ngaihte and others like president of ZRO and MLA of 58 Churachandpur AC, LM Khaute.
Secretary of Home Affairs ZRO, Kiamlou Guite (representing the president of ZRO) lauded the work of the incumbent or outgoing Chairman and his team. He said that as one of the darkest periods of the Zomis, the new chairman and his team have a great task ahead while calling the Zomi Council as a great pillar which is the “Guardian of the Zomi unity and integrity”. He also called on the new chairman to uphold the aims and objectives of the organisation.
In his speech, MLA Khaute spoke about the further need of unity among the Zomis to overcome different barriers while also highlighting his efforts for the Zomi at the same time promising to do his best as the road ahead will be long and challenging.
A book titled ‘Zomi Milestone’ (a publication of 75th Zomi Namni platinum Jubilee celebration) was also released on the occasion by the Editorial board.
H Pauzalal, secretary Admn Affairs made a report on the Activities of ZC . The second session was a business Session with the third session being the election of the new Zomi Council (2024-’27) led by Zomi Council Election Commission.
